STEP FuturAbility District and IMCD Italy's AI & STEM initiative
As technological innovation continues to shape our world, helping younger generations develop the skills to understand and apply it responsibly is more important than ever. IMCD Italy is actively committed to bridging the gap between industry and education, supporting initiatives that prepare young people for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
With this vision, we took part in a special educational event organised in collaboration with our partner STEP FuturAbility District and the “Lorenzo Mossa” Technical Institute of Oristano.
STEP FuturAbility District is an innovative technology hub in Milan that serves as a vital cultural and educating platform, helping people of all ages, especially youth, to enhance their awareness of digital transformation's impact on daily life and future skills. Through interactive exhibits and hands-on experiences, STEP inspires and empowers visitors to navigate and thrive in an increasingly digital world.
The online event involved around 70 students from both the Technology and Tourism tracks, offering them a valuable opportunity to explore the practical potential of artificial intelligence and reflect on the role of STEM in their academic and professional journey.
Following a warm opening by Marco Madeddu, Managing Director of IMCD Italy, Professor Marillina Meloni, Principal of the “Lorenzo Mossa” Technical Institute, and the insightful storytelling of Cristina Paciello, Head of STEP FuturAbility District, students joined a live AI workshop led by science journalist Eugenio Spagnuolo. The session combined theoretical insights with practical examples and interactive demos, showing students how generative AI works, how to build effective prompts, and how to use language models to enhance research and analytical skills.
The event concluded with a Q&A and a live demonstration with SAM (Smart Artificial Mind - STEP’s generative AI avatar), which answered the students’ questions in real time.
“It’s essential that companies like ours play an active role in guiding younger generations towards the future. By sharing real-world knowledge and practical tools, we hope to spark curiosity and show that innovation, when approached responsibly, can be a powerful force for good.” said Marco Madeddu, Managing Director of IMCD Italy.
Through this impactful initiative, IMCD Italy proudly reaffirms its strategic role as a vital connector between leading industry practices and foundational educational institutions. We are dedicated to championing projects that empower young people to explore the vast landscape of innovation with confidence, fostering their creativity and instilling a deep sense of responsibility, thereby shaping a brighter, more technologically literate future for all.
